'Sanctuary In Abyss' Is the Best Melodeath Album of 2013 So Far

MetalSucks calls 'Sanctuary In Abyss" Best Melodeath album of 2013 so far

Finnish melodeath band Hateform, who we spotlighted on the site in January, feature in their ranks two former member of Mors Principium Est. That alone should be enough to make you pay attention since you surely love the latter.

But you know what? I think I enjoy the new Hateform album more than I dig the latest Mors Principium Est (which I definitely do dig too). Is that heresy? Dunno. Just shut up and headbang to Sanctuary In Abyss in full at Inferno.fi right now! It’s the band’s third album and it won’t be released until March 1st, but you can and should give it a spin right this second. It’s rare in this day and age that a melodic death metal band comes along that really knocks us off our feet, but Hateform are that band. It’s like Predator’s Portrait-era Soilwork mixed with Pitch Black Progress-era Scar Symmetry, but with no clean vocals whatsoever. Hateform are fast, they’re heavy, they’re great musicians, and — that bastion of melodeath — they write hella good songs.

ORIANTHI ANNOUNCES RELEASE DATE FOR NEW ALBUM

ORIANTHI ANNOUNCES RELEASE DATE FOR THIRD STUDIO ALBUM, ‘HEAVEN IN THIS HELL’
ORIANTHI ANNOUNCES RELEASE DATE FOR NEW ALBUM

Platinum-selling solo artist and iconic guitarist Orianthi – recently seen touring the world with Alice Cooper – is gearing up for the release of her new album, ‘Heaven In This Hell’.

Produced by Dave Stewart, the album will be released on Spinefarm Records/Robo Records, and is scheduled to drop on March 11th 2013.

‘Heaven In This Hell’ – Orinathi’s third solo outing following ‘Violet Journey’ (2007) & ‘Believe’ (2010) – delivers a mega-dose of rock, weaving in elements of modern country & swampy blues.

“I am so proud of this album because it really showcases my style of riff heavy rock and energetic blues,” Orianthi remarks. “The success of ‘Believe’ helped to give me credibility and afforded me the freedom to create the kind of album I have been wanting to make, with musicians I respect, playing together live in a studio, creatively exchanging ideas... the way I want all my records to be made. My friend, collaborator and producer, Dave Stewart and I just jammed and hashed out a variety of songs and sounds until we found the grooves that inspired us.”

While Orianthi recorded the majority of ‘Heaven In This Hell’ at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, she also worked on several songs & overdubs at Dave Stewart's Hollywood studio…

“Working with Ori over the last year has been an inspiring experience for me,” comments Stewart. “She is such a dedicated guitarist and focused songwriter; her enthusiasm is infectious and all of the musicians who worked on the record were motivated to give her their best. When we went to Nashville, we knew we were about to embark on something exciting, something career-altering.”

Track-listing:

1. Heaven in this Hell
2. You Don't Wanna Know
3. Fire
4. If You Think You Know Me
4. How Do You Sleep?
5. Frozen
6. Rock
7. Another You
8. How Does That Feel?
9. Filthy Blues
10. If You Were Here With Me

The iTunes version of the album comes complete with two bonus tracks.

PLEASE WELCOME TURBOGEIST TO THE SPINEFARM FAMILY!

'Ancient Secrets' EP by the punk-rocking London lads will be released on March 12th!
PLEASE WELCOME TURBOGEIST TO THE SPINEFARM FAMILY!

Inspired in part by Apocalyptic times, ‘Ancient Secrets’ includes five ripping tracks, with man’s stuttering evolution at the core of the action; the featured songs include ‘Mermaid’s Revenge’ (about our ill-fated attempts to conquer nature), for which a video has just been filmed, and ‘Zero Friends’ (society's slow death by social networking).

Co-produced by the band & Chris Sheldon (who has previously worked with Pixies, Radiohead & Foo Fighters, amongst others), ‘Ancient Secrets’ was recorded at Livingston Studios in North London, and will be available as a digital download plus a numbered, coloured vinyl 10”.

Vocalist/guitarist Jimmy has this to say about the EP..

“Ancient Secrets pertains to our obsession with all things fantastical and cryptic. It's an abstract title, but these are abstract times. We didn't wanna make an oi oi punk angst record, although that’s how we started out. We wanted to make something more tongue-in-cheek, more weird. We were always turned on by a splatter gun of influences. We didn’t want to make a punk or hardcore or glam or thrash record; we didn't wanna make anything that felt sonically linear. If the EP were a drug it would probably be acid, as it could go in a few directions. It could be scary, but it could also make you laugh or cry, or make you realise that nothing is real and we are all just a collection of atoms moving very fast to no discernible end.”

Inspired by ’70’s era punk-rock and ’80s hardcore, and taking cues from The Replacements, The Damned and The Misfits, Turbogeist – Jimmy, Luis, James & Josh – are out to carve their own path, melding their influences (including a deep love of comic books) into an amalgam of twisted sci-fi laden punk rock exploding with raw aggression & attitude.

Guitarist / vocalist Luis adds...

“Being a youth in the 90's with Brit pop, Grunge, Hip hop and great rock bands emerging on the radio and music television we were spoiled for choice. Nowadays everything seems too polished. However if you look beyond the void of Mercury Awards and Coldplay b-sides there are great underground scenes/ bands emerging.”

The debut Turbogeist album is already in the can, and will follow later in 2013, once again through Spinefarm.

NEW BENEA REACH ALBUM COMING THIS MARCH!

BENEA REACH SET TO RELEASE THIRD STUDIO ALBUM, ‘POSSESSION’, IN  MARCH + BRAND NEW VIDEO FOR FIRST SINGLE, ‘MOUNTAIN’

NEW BENEA REACH ALBUM COMING THIS MARCH!

Grammy-nominated Norwegian tech-metallers BENEA REACH will release their third full-length offering of epic progressive metal on March 22nd in Finland, on March 25th in rest of Europe and March 26th in USA.

Titled, ‘Possession’, this latest album was produced by Benea Reach & Thomas Wang, then mixed & mastered by Tue Madsen (The Haunted, Mnemic, Raunchy) at Antfarm Studio.

Known for his bipolar vocal ability, BR frontman Ilkka Volume veers memorably from low belly-aching screams through to high manic shrieks – almost as if the band had a dual-vocal set-up. He’s excited about the new record, and can’t wait for it to be heard…

“Well,  it's our 3rd and, in my eyes, the best yet. Having it released on a label like Spinefarm is great; hopefully, that means it'll reach a lot more people – they'll hear the music, check us out live, enjoy it all and spread the word! Heavy rock is a pretty busy genre at the moment, but I really think people will find something a bit different about us and want to discover more - and, if they can start with this new record, that'd be perfect".

The video for first single, ‘Mountain’, shot in Norway, has been directed & animated by UK-based artist & film-maker Robin Fuller (Feed The Rhino, Hawk Eyes, The Defiled).

BR is currently in the planning stages of a full UK tour for 2013; UK & European festival appearances are also being lined up.

VOLBEAT TO RELEASE 'OUTLAW GENTLEMEN & SHADY LADIES'

APRIL 8th, 2013 RELEASE DATE SET FOR NEW ALBUM

PLUS Rob Caggiano Joins Volbeat As Second Guitarist

Pre Order 'Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies' Here

VOLBEAT TO RELEASE 'OUTLAW GENTLEMEN & SHADY LADIES'

Danish metal band Volbeat has announced that the upcoming studio album 'Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies' will be released on April 8, 2013. The band has also shared that former Anthrax and The Damned Things guitarist Rob Caggiano has officially joined the band. Caggiano served as producer on Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies, alongside long-time production partner Jacob Hansen, who produced and mixed the band's prior four albums. Caggiano's producer credits include The Damned Things, Bleeding Through and Anthrax amongst others, and he was a member of Anthrax for two tenures from 2001-2005 and again from 2007-2013. Singer and guitarist Michael Poulsen shared,

"The band is very proud and happy to announce that he will also be the new guitar player in Volbeat. The collaboration with Rob in the studio was so inspiring and in good spirit that we the decided to keep him. Basically we went into the studio as a three piece and came out as a whole band!"

Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies will be released on Universal Music and Volbeat has revealed the cover for the upcoming album, and a photograph from the studio featuring the new line-up, both of which are available upon request. Poulsen reveals,

"Half of the album tracks will take you into the world of outlaw gunslinger stories sometime in the 1800s. Some of the characters are true legends, while others are fiction. The listener will hear inspiration from classic spaghetti western movies which gives you a clue to the album title and cover artwork."

Poulsen also offers additional detail on the recordings sharing,

"We are still 'rocking out' in the studio, and working on the last details. We are very excited about this album. We feel that we've achieved the goals we set out. The heavy stuff on the album is perhaps more old school heavy riffs than earlier, and the rock songs rock out with tons of melodies and take us into unchartered territory. All that without losing the Volbeat sound that is the cornerstone of our band."

Volbeat achieved a rare feat over the past album cycle, with three songs from Beyond Hell / Above Heaven hitting #1 on the Active Rock charts. The third of these songs, "Heaven Nor Hell" is currently the most played song at the format, following prior singles "A Warrior's Call" and "Still Counting" in achieving this milestone. The anticipation for the upcoming release Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies is significant on a worldwide basis, as the band's notoriety continues to grow steadily month after month. Beyond Hell / Above Heaven has now sold more than 750,000 copies across the globe, and has been certified for 2X platinum in the band's home country Denmark, while achieving platinum certification in Germany and Finland. The album reached gold status in Canada, Sweden and Austria, with strong U.S. sales exceeding 250,000 units.
