‘SILENT SO LONG’ – CD + VINYL - NOVEMBER 3rd
Formed by Rammstein’s Richard Kruspe, EMIGRATE have now set the release date for their new studio album – the follow up to the 2007 self-titled debut, a Top 10 German chart entry.
Titled ‘Silent So Long’, this sophomore outing – produced by EMIGRATE themselves and mixed in Los Angeles by Ben Grosse (Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, Disturbed, etc.) – features 11 brand new recordings, with a lead single / video to be announced shortly…
As with the debut, Kruspe adds to his guitar playing / song-writing duties by stepping up to the mic, only this time he’s joined by a number of guest singers; there’s Lemmyfrom Motörhead, Korn’s Jonathan Davis, Marilyn Manson, Canadian born Berlin-dweller, Peaches, plus Frank Dellé from chart-topping German collective Seeed.
“I didn’t write the songs with specific guests in mind,” explains Kruspe, “I just thought who would do the best job on this or that track, and the final performances were everything I was hoping for. You know, I’ve had about five moments in my music career when I’ve been left smiling like a child – one was when Rammstein sold out New York’s Madison Square Garden in 20 minutes (2010), but the last one was hearing Lemmy on tape. It just sounds f**king great! I wrote him a really long message and he came back “alright!” Fantastic!”

For Kruspe, still firmly ensconced within the Rammstein ranks, EMIGRATE has never been a side or a solo project. Preferring to tap into the energy of a team, and looking to revive the collaborative spirit of the East German punk scene he grew from, the guitarist has always put value on those around him, and this time – in addition to the existing personnel of guitarist / producer Olson Involtini and bassist / co-conspiratorArnaud Giroux – he’s joined by drummers Mikko Sirén (Apocalyptica) and Joe Letz(Combichrist).
Whilst ‘EMIGRATE’ saw Kruspe, a restless creative spirit, proving that he could take on a new set of challenges, the follow-up adds fresh layers in terms of invention, emotion and contemporary sheen, with Margaux Bossieux – previously of New York punk band Dirty Mary – providing telling backing vocals throughout; crafted with care inKruspe’sown Berlin studio plus the old radio building on the city’s Nalepa Street, the latter enhanced by an extra control room’s worth of gear(!), ‘Silent So Long’ is another bold step forward, with both music and (English) lyrics showing no desire to be corralled, and Kruspe The Guitarist happy to let rip where the music demands.
With sold-out global tours, headline festival appearances and a succession of platinum albums marking his career with Rammstein, Kruspe could easily opt for a less pressured existence, but ‘resting on laurels’, or the German equivalent, isn’t within his immediate frame of reference…
‘TELLURIAN’, THE SECOND STUDIO ALBUM DUE FOR RELEASE ON NOVEMBER 3rd
IT’S HARD to put a handle on SOEN, but if progressive music is‘entertainment for those who are easily bored’, then this Swedish outfit fits easily under that heading.
As forthcoming / second studio album, ‘Tellurian’, makes plain, SOEN – that’s drummer Martin Lopez (ex-Opeth, Amon Amarth), vocalist Joel Ekelöf (Willowtree), guitarist Joakim Platbarzdis & bassist Stefan Stenberg – are not concerned with the simple or the shallow; their musical journey takes an altogether more ambitious path, and the result is an expansive body of work, wrapped up in the stunning art of Mexican painter José Luis López Galván, that consistently challenges without being ‘clever-clever’ or tough to enjoy.
The melodies are intricate, the playing muscular and the choruses soaring; overall, the feel is one of a band – aided by Christian Andolf on keys – whose intent is very much in synch with the sort of core values (skilled musicianship, emotion over precision, importance of album artwork, etc.) that seem to be back in vogue…
Produced by Platbarzdis (who also played some of the bass), mixed by the legendary / Grammy Award-winning David Bottrill (Tool, SmashingPumpkins, Muse, King Crimson, etc.) and mastered at Bob Ludwig’sGateway set-up in the US, ‘Tellurian’ sees SOEN taking the approach of their‘Cognitive’ debut (2012, Spinefarm Records) and pushing the boundaries in terms of musical scope, the whole thing shot through with the confidence of a band who have found their voice.
Rhythmic, experimental and flowing, and with the ‘muso’ side never taking precedence over a good song and a telling chorus, ‘Tellurian’ (‘relating to, or inhabiting the earth’) will appeal to anyone with an ear for quality playing, and there’s further reward to be had below the surface, with the lyrics taking a more direct route than on ‘Cognitive’, and the construction of the material – including first single / video ‘Tabula Rasa’ (‘Clean Slate’) – allowing room for the raw emotion to shine through.
Music for the head and the heart.
Electric Wizard Premier short film for SadioWitch
Electric Wizard with Witchfinder/Satyr IX Productions have completed work on a short film for new track, ‘SadioWitch’.
The film has been created by the mysterious and alluring Shazzula Vultura, and is thefirst official promo for an Electric Wizard single; ‘SadioWitch’ is the second single to be released from the band’s forthcoming studio album, ‘Time to Die’ (September 30th), following on from the epic ‘I am Nothing’.
According to Wizard vocalist / guitarist Jus Oborn, the footage – captured in various locations, including Iceland – features “Clandestinely filmed scenes of Luciferian depravity” of the kind “long-awaited by the diehard cult of Wizard fans… A visual amalgamation of Kenneth Anger's psychedelic occultism, the monomania of Jess Franco and the unbridled excess of Robert Hartford Davies, documenting fully the pleasures of the flesh, drugs and sadism… as they really happen today…”
Pre-orders for the limited SadioWitch 7-inch, as well as ‘Time to Die’ bundles, are available now via www.electricfuckinwizard.com. Digital pre-orders for the album are available via iTunes here
According to The Guardian, "Lots of bands make claims to be the heaviest of all, but only Electric Wizard really qualify for the title. Masters of crushing doom metal and sinister B-movie kitsch, the British veterans are more popular than ever right now, and new album ‘Time to Die’ looks certain to be their biggest to date. A slow-motion, Sabbathian horror show thrumming with drug-ravaged psychedelic menace and bulging with hypnotic riffs.”
The band previously unveiled a video for ‘I am Nothing’, which can be seen here:http://youtu.be/mDo2Ujb7i3A.
On the live front, Electric Wizard have announced a UK headline show for October 23rd at The Ritz in Manchester.

Commented guitarist Olof Mörck, "The first piece of music to be released from MASSIVE ADDICTIVE is a very representative track. 'Drop Dead Cynical' is as massive as it is addictive. This ultra-groovy song is a markedly different first single compared to classical AMARANTHE single choices, and it takes our trademark sound in fresh and exciting new directions! Top that off with an anthemic chorus, and the result is what I consider one of the absolutely strongest AMARANTHE songs ever!"
The iTunes pre-order launches today, as well, with "Drop Dead Cynical" offered as an instant grat download.
Additionally, the pre-order includes multiple bundles. The band's U.K. merch store is HERE.

Back to Oblivion will be released on September 29th via Spinefarm Records.
Back to Oblivion marks the return of Finch with the band’s first full length album in over nine years. The Southern California band has undeniably created a lasting, formidable body of work with their two studio albums and EPs - singer Nate Barcalow acknowledges that 2002’s What It Is To Burn all but “defined post-hardcore early in the decade”, while 2005’s Say Hello to Sunshine continued to shape its direction.
The band dignified the demand for a celebration of What It Is To Burn’s 10th anniversary by reforming after a hiatus and playing select sold-out shows across the country in 2013. Inspired by the creative surge brought on by these shows, Finch rendered these contradictions moot with Back to Oblivion, their long-awaited third LP and a new, bold chapter in the band’s legacy.
Back to Oblivion itself is a paradoxical idea. This is Finch reinvigorated, brimming with the inspiration of their earliest days; the opposite of the negation implied by “oblivion.” But as a songwriting unit, they’re challenging themselves by going deep into the unknown - this is by far Finch’s most introspective and demanding work from a lyrical standpoint. The album was produced by Brian Virtue (Deftones, 30 Seconds to Mars, Janes Addiction, Audio Slave).
