VON HERTZEN BROTHERS SET TO WORK ON STUDIO ALBUM NUMBER SIX WITH “TOP-OF-THE-LINE” TEAM!
Left – right: Kie Von Hertzen, Mikko Von Hertzen, Garth Richardson, Mikko Kaakkuriniemi, Juha Kuoppala, Jonne Von Hertzen
Von Hertzen Brothers, will release their sixth studio album early next year via Spinefarm Records.
Following the outstanding critical acclaim afforded their last full-length release, ‘Nine Lives’ (2013), the brothers – Mikko, Kie& Jonne Von Hertzen – are now back in the studio doing pre-production, this time with Grammy-nominated Canadian producer Garth ‘GGGarth’ Richardson (Biffy Clyro, Atreyu, Rage Against The Machine, etc.), plus regular drummer Mikko Kaakkuriniemi and keyboard player Juha Kuoppala.
Once pre-production is complete, VHB will head across to Canada where recording will start in September; the studio chosen for the task at hand is The Farm (owned and operated by Richardson) in Vancouver – previously the world-renowned Little Mountain Sound Studio, past home to acts such as Aerosmith, AC/DC, Metallica and The Cult.
Mixing, meanwhile, is set to be handled by Canadian Randy Staub, a Juno Awards-winner whose previous credits include some of the biggest names in rock and metal, the likes of Metallica, Alice In Chains, etc…
Says Garth: “Working with Von Hertzen Brothers is a dream come true. Besides being the coolest people on the planet, they are one of the hardest working bands I know. This is a record that will be on everyone's iPod, phone and turntable. Turn it up loud and get ready to rock. They are going to tear it up!”
Mikko Von Hertzen adds: “For the past five years, we’ve been working hard on building an international set up, and now, with our sixth album on the way, the collective feeling is that we need to up it a gear and just go for it! From the outset, the idea was to find a producer who knows his stuff, is experienced, has a vision, and thus something concrete to offer our music. With Garth, things clicked from the first meeting, and what was really encouraging was his enthusiasm for our new material. Of course, we’re really looking forward to recording in a studio like The Farm – there’s legendary vibes in that place! But it’s even more thrilling to create our music with a top-of-the-line team. Randy Staub is another world class pro who needs no introducing. The work of Randy & Garth simply speaks for itself!”
Further details of this forthcoming record will be revealed in due course.
HEADLINE UK SHOW ANNOUNCED FOR OCTOBER 23RD IN MANCHESTER
ELECTRIC FUCKIN’ WIZARD have revealed a second track from their forthcoming full-length album, ‘TIME TO DIE’, set for release via Spinefarm Records on September 29th.
Titled ‘SadioWitch’ and featuring the line ‘the black drug took my soul away’, the song will be accompanied by a video, currently being edited. Little is known about the clip, although it is believed to feature (encouragingly) both ‘nudity’ & ‘explosions’.
“Sadiowitch is about death by lust and indulgence. As life becomes disillusioning it is reassuring to turn to 'lifes luxuries'…sex and drugs. But, of course, over indulgence leads to emaciation, weakness and death. The song is short and sweet just like this particular form of death. There are many choices but only one outcome. Choose wisely…” – Jus Oborn
A limited edition 7” version of ‘SadioWitch’ is also being planned, with a previously unreleased piece of music on the B-side.
‘TIME TO DIE’ is the eighth full-length offering from the masters of aural punishment, and their first album release since signing a worldwide deal with Spinefarm Records.

* Finch playing UK shows this week *
“Two Guns To The Temple” will be available to download from the 18th August.
Back To Oblivion marks the return of Finch with the band’s first full length album in over nine years. The Southern California band has undeniably created a lasting, formidable body of work with their two studio albums and EPs - singer Nate Barcalow acknowledges that 2002’s What It Is To Burn all but “defined post-hardcore early in the decade”, while 2005’s Say Hello To Sunshine continued to shape its direction. The band dignified the demand for a celebration of What It Is To Burn’s 10th anniversary by reforming after a hiatus and playing select sold-out shows across the country in 2013. Inspired by the creative surge brought on by these shows, Finch rendered these contradictions moot with Back To Oblivion, their long-awaited third LP and a new, bold chapter in the band’s legacy. Back To Oblivion itself is a paradoxical idea. This is Finch reinvigorated, brimming with the inspiration of their earliest days; the opposite of the negation implied by “oblivion”. But as a songwriting unit, they’re challenging themselves by going deep into the unknown - this is by far Finch’s most introspective and demanding work from a lyrical standpoint. The album was produced by Brian Virtue (Deftones, 30 Seconds To Mars, Jane’s Addiction, Audioslave).
This past summer, Finch returned to the Warped Tour as a respected veteran; this was once a scene where they had been the newcomer with something to prove. Finch will play the following UK shows this week:
Wednesday 13th August London Underworld
Thursday 14th August Kingston Banquet Records (Acoustic Set)
Friday 15th August Hevy Festival (headline set)

WATCH CURRENT VIDEO ‘COFFIN’ HERE
Protest The Hero today release the video for ‘Mist’ – a track from the band’s fourth studio album, ‘Volition’, out now via Spinefarm Records.
Shot in the Canadian province of Newfoundland & Labrador, ‘Mist’ is an 8½ minute mini-movie spotlighting a part of the world that contains some of the band’s most dedicated fans. Newfoundland is not included on most tour itineraries, but repeated visits by Protest The Hero has given birth to one of the Ontario group’s most raucous fan-bases.
Guitarist Luke Hoskin comments:
“Making this video came in two parts. Originally, the plan was to film an ‘Island Tour’. We pestered our friend / promoter Johnny to book us as many shows on the island as possible. Begrudgingly, he dug us up two additional shows to the typical BIG St. John's date. We hauled everything we could in two small minivans, and a gaggle of our wonderful NFLD friends tagged along in a couple of separate vehicles. It felt more like a carnival than a tour – our motorcade invading gas stations and rest stops along the way. It wouldn't have been the same without all those familiar faces to help us at every step. When we were done, though, it felt like something was missing...
“Since the original idea was to film the tour and make the 'Mist' video from all that footage, our job was done right? We were close, but we felt like we had left out the most beautiful part of the island – the island itself! So we returned. And we made sure to capture some of our favourite spots in the St. John's area.
“As expected, we were welcomed with open arms, and the unbridled enthusiasm we have come to expect from this place. It was an amazing feeling to make
a video for the song about the place you love the most. It was even more amazing to fall further in love while shooting. I am constantly reminded of the friendships we have made there, and am ever thankful for the reception we have experienced. There is something truly magnetic about this place – don't go unless you plan on returning many times.”
‘Mist’ is the fifth official video from ‘Volition’, following lyric videos for ‘Clarity’ and ‘A Life Embossed’, plus conceptual videos for ‘Underbite’ & ‘Tilting Against Windmills’.
PTH will continue to tour through to the end of 2014, with headline dates in the UK & Ireland already on sale for November / December; in addition, the band will be playing shows in Australia, South Africa & Europe.
